THE PASSING OF TWO OF OUR SHIPMATES

The following info was recently received from Hilton Roberts: “I just got an email from John Charles that Curtis Johnston died February 12, 2012 while on a ski trip to Austria. He was an ETN2 on Sellers and I made two Med trips with him in ’63 and ’64. I believe he was at the last reunion and I know he was at the one before that. I also saw where Joseph Donnell (Vice ADMIRAL, USN, Retired) died recently. He was CHIEF ENGINEER on Sellers and left the ship shortly before the first Med cruise in ’63. Regards, Hilton Roberts”

2008 REUNION IN BALTIMORE A SUCCESS!

“MEMORIAL SERVICE at recent 2008 SELLERS Reunion.”

From September 4-7, the SELLERS Association members gathered in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor at the Holiday Inn for a grand time of sea story telling, and the renewing of old friendships. The Reunion was a lot of fun; the weather on Friday & Sunday was great, but Sat was very WET, as Tropical Storm Hannah blew by Maryland. In spite of the rain, everyone enjoyed the trip out to Fort McHenry. Folks also had a chance to enjoy the Baltimore Inner Harbor, a very neat place. For those who had never really visited Baltimore before, it was interesting to look around, get some history of the town, and see the sights. Many enjoyed seeing the 4 museum ships that they have in the Inner Harbor – a WW II Sub, a Coast Guard Cutter, a Coast Guard Lightship, and the USS Constellation. Our Banquet on Saturday night was only surpassed by Sunday morning’s Memorial Service to shipmates no longer with us. During the Business Meeting, an election of new Association officers was held, and a vote was taken to have the next Reunion in Norfolk, unless the ADAMS Museum is open in Jax, in which case we’ll go to Jax.
